This.

Some of the smaller places round here were just better. although no longer around.

While Walmart may have adavantages, its also killing the smaller business.
And I don't think thats a good thing either.
Yeah, I don't always buy for bottom dollar. Service is important to me down the road. And I'd rather go to a "real" bike shop to get my bicycle properly fitted and adjusted for me, rather than letting some teenager at Walmart sell me the bike he put together when his shift started.

I find this thread about the "Mom & Pop stores" rather interesting. I am curious to know, if there was a "Mom & Pop" and Walmart with equal products but Walmart had a better price, would you really pay more just because you want the "Mom & Pops" to exist. I doubt if there are many that would. Not me, I value the dollar too much.

Good point. It is not the big stores that kill the little stores - it is us consumers.

Be careful of the walmart fall apart. That was a term we used as kids when friends got a bicycle from walmart.

Well, so far it would appear as though opionions differ somwhat regarding Walmart, but most is defintely leaning toward toward the idea of Walmart not being a good thing

Maybe Walter (Jeff Dunham) was right when he said about Walmart: "Welcome to Walmart. Get your sh*t and get out".

A little known fact

It the early 1980's Walmart won a federal lawsuit that permits them to sell mdse below their net cost as a loss leader until they run the "Mom & Pop" small stores
Out of Business That's unfair competition. Then once the little stores are gone, Walmart could raise their prices to what ever they wanted, as there were no other
choices to shop at.

Please shop wisely

I'd prefer the more personal service of smaller shops with the low prices of a mega monster.

But you can't have it both ways.

While we don't have Walmart here in Aus (and hope to never have them) the same attrition tactics are used by other companies to screw consumers over.

Everyone is happy when the prices are low as one of these companies slowly take over an area, but once they have their monopoly and consumers realise that prices have jumped even higher and product ranges become increasingly limited... the smiles start to fade.

Yet consumers keep falling for it

I was at a loss to determine why accessing www.walmart.com from any browser returned a blank browser screen. I tried a lot of things that are mentioned on other sites. Walmart Woes
I just got back from shopping, and I left the car at the automotive service, while getting groceries, because I needed a new tire on the front. I don't shop very often, so when I do, it is somewhat of a chore. When I had checked out the groceries, I returned to automotive to pay for the tire,...
