Wow! that is expensive our vet is a lot cheaper, I think it's probably about half that price down here.

We had a vet in our community (retired now), that focused on big animals (cattle, horses, and the like), but, used to provide spaying and neutering for the little critters, as time permitted, for free. You might look around, to see if there is a vet in your area that provides the same service.

That's a good point, if you've got to add on travel expenses as well to the mix it can put the price up even more.
