He's definitely a handsome boy. My Willow quite often goes up the trees round here, the collared doves torment her so she chases them up the trees.
My next door neighbour has seen her up her Oak tree on occasion, because she's small and light it's easy for her to scramble in and out of the small branches.

I think that Stephanie is trying to feed Max enough to get his belly to hang down more. That should lower his center of gravity.
Might make it easier for Max to stay top side up.
