boohbah, good man that Jackson Galaxy reminds me of the dog whisperer Cesar Millan. Canines establish who is the pack leader, with felines it is who is the leader of the pride.

In either case if the caregiver acts submissive the pet will assume the dominant role, and the caregiver will wonder "what did I do wrong"? You did not do anything wrong, except for the fact that you did not realize the roles were reversed. You were just unable to read the reactions of your pet because in your mind you, - the human - "thought" - you had some semblance of control when in fact you relinquished it early in your relationship with your pet.

Even though our pets are somewhat domesticated, the caregiver still has to realize, they still harbor primeval instincts.

Mine is just like a dog, all I have to do is whistle and call her, she comes and gets ready to go to bed each evening with me.
She like to sleep downstairs looking out the sliding glass doors.
She (it) knows that I am the alpha and seems to keep wanting to clean my hair. and I take a shower every day.

Joan, Sooty may feel that you had something to do with Lynx's disappearance, and is acting out his frustrations on you, when you entered his territory he reacted. Has he been checked lately at the Vet's for any health problems?
Well as he was the one who was playing tag with Lynx just before he disappeared plus it was over 4 years ago, what do you think Steve.

He's checked out on a regular basis at the vets and there's nothing wrong with him even the vet thinks he's gone a bit bipolar because of missing him.

Willow will come when called, she's on the back on the couch at the moment with me.

She comes in when called at night then usually settles down on Johns office chair, it's one of those executive ones and has a cushion on it so it's comfortable.
Mind you they tend to move about so will settle in one place for a good while then move on to somewhere else. :)

Cats are funny when they suddenly need to be somewhere else real FAST! Then they come back, eyes wide open seeming to say, "What are you looking at"?

Sooty used to be like that, he changed when we lost Lynx as we got them together and they were together for the first 6 years of their lives.

He went a bit bipolar after that and he can be as nice as pie one minute and the next he'll attack. The other day he was sitting on the outside doorstep and I was as well, plenty of room between us, I went to step off and he attacked my legs. You just can't trust him any longer and as he's such a large cat a tap from him does some damage, he's 10 now so getting to be a grumpy old man.

I misunderstood you Joan, when I think lost in the context it was used I think of death or a passing on.

What do I think? I would have to agree with the Vet. Sooty's depressed from the absence of his buddy.

I would like to add that instead of using the word frustration I should have said that Sooty was just trying to initiate play like he did with Lynx.
