This isn't just Redmond though. It's not just a matter of "Microsoft" is going to force me into this. This is coming from other directions as well. For example, Google Apps. There is also a webtop OS coming from Google before too long and the laptop boots pretty much right to the web. Look at the interest in Tablet computers. Most of these don't store data files and such locally...instead they are stored and available via the cloud.
As much as I have been apprehensive about the cloud, looking at a variety of things shows that I am slowly moving that way. What have I done specifically, well I use gmail for email. I use tools like Facebook and Photobucket to share photos with friends and family. I use Evernote (Remember Everything | Evernote Corporation) to store notes that I can access from any device, anywhere. I track web site logins, passwords, and other things that I know I may need access to when I am not directly on my home network.
