The default Android media player can do that yea, and you can hold the previous and next buttons to rewind/fast forward too. There's plenty of free media players too, like I use Winamp at the moment, which can also do the same.

While I love Android, there are somethings that Google needs to have a tougher stance on.

The fragmentation issue needs resolved soon. Google needs to step up and say, if you want to use our OS, you use it the way it is.

Too many phone manufacturers are trying to put their own twist on it. Do we really need all these custom UI's? Why not run vanilla Android the way it's supposed to be. The update process is really being slowed to a crawl because of this.

I know this goes against the "open source" spirit of things, but when you have phones just getting the Froyo update, how long will it take to get Gingerbread through considering the code was finished before Christmas?
They do need to sort it out, but not by telling the manufacturers what they can and can't do, they just simply need to tell them they must release every Android update in x amount of time. The amount of time it takes for an update to come is stupid like my Desire isn't getting 2.3 officially until at least middle of Summer once the new HTC phones are released with 2.3.

I don't mind all the different UIs, as I did love HTC Sense. It came with a lot of nice features that the default UI doesn't have and has one of the best virtual keyboards I've used. I managed to install the keyboard on to the ROM I've got now, but I do miss some of the widgets and other little features.

Security Alert: DroidDream Malware Found in Official Android Market

Security Alert: DroidDream Malware Found in Official Android Market

Update: Apps released under the developer names “Kingmall2010″, “we20090202″, and “Myournet” contain DroidDream and have been suspended from the official Android Market. To date, more than 50 applications have been found to be infected with DroidDream. See below for the full list of apps.
Update: We originally reported that Google removed the apps from devices, but we recently learned that the remote removal system has not yet been engaged for these applications because they are under active investigation.
Update: We’ve deployed an over-the-air update that protects Lookout users from all known instances of DroidDream.

When 21 rogue apps started siphoning off identifying information from Android phones and installing security holes, Google yanked the lot from Android Market, and called the authorities to boot. But what of the 50,000 copies already downloaded by unwitting users?

I find it good what Google is going to combat it. I guess it answers the questions people had about the Android Market being open as to what the Apple Appstore is like. Like in the link Stalker posted about Android anti-viruses putting out updates, Google are doing their own OTA update to help clean infected handsets.

Though a lot methods used by the malware was patched in Android 2.2.2, and the majority of handsets are still on 2.2.1, so if Google/handset manufacturers started pushing updates out faster then it might have been avoided for a lot of people.

There's a new Froyo build for the Samsung Galaxy S users out there. 2.2.1 XWJS7. This should hold me over untill the stable Gingerbread ROM's start leaking.

i've only had my phone since the weekend - it's an orange san francisco (aka zte blade) - an absolute bargain at less than £100! i can thoroughly recommend it to all poor people looking for a smartphone.

(for those that don't know orange is a [mainly] european network provider - luckily the phone is easily unlockable, enabling it to be used with other, better networks.)

it originally came with an awful orange-ified 2.1 rom - i played about with it for a few days, learned about rooting etc, managed to semi-decrapify it, then decided to have a look at a froyo custom rom.

so far, so good - it's sorted a major problem i had reconnecting wifi after sleeping, seems to have better battery life, and adds overclockability - stock speed is 600 mhz and i've had a successful lengthy angry birds session at 750 mhz. :)

i can also recommend the MoDaCo forums for everything mobile-phone related, with a large android sub-forum, with sub-sections for specific phones - my phone seems to have the largest thread count at the moment.

i'm thinking of looking at a gingerbread cyanogenmod next, once a few issues have been ironed out...

Here's the animation I've been using for a while I've been using for a while. I edited it a bit for my ROM etc.

Also my custom splash screen too.

I've read that the Nexus S is being released in Australia soon. If you are able to get that, then I'd go for it. It's a very nice phone.
The Nexus S is very nice. But also have a look at the HTC options - especially the Thunderbolt. And the Motorola Atrix is the ultimate - especially with the dock.
