This area is about in the middle of what we call "tornado alley". So many tornado and storm warnings every year, it is easy to become complacent when no tornado actually arrives. Like this one, by the time the "hook echo" radar sees as the tornado arrived in my back yard, some 5 miles away, the only damage was from strong winds. I did hear a tornado over my home once, it damaged some buildings just north of me. Hope I never hear another one!

Have not received any news yet of any personal acquaintances in Joplin who have been affected. But my heartfelt prayers go out to those who have experienced this tragedy, and there are many.

You guys should dig tunnels......maybe living underground would be safer!
Glad to see you're both still with us.

It seems that way Noob!

The one that hit St. Louis about a month ago almost all the residences had basements to got to. No deaths. Only a couple of injuries.

The one that hit Mississippi. Alabama and Georgia about 3 weeks ago. No basements.

Joplin almost all no basements.
Slabs and crawl spaces. No underground cover.
They had I heard about 20 minute siren warning but no place to hide.

May they rest in peace!

100 MPH plus hurricane winds was quite sufficient thank you.
