To quote a movie character: "Then they can bill me!"

£1000 is a small price to pay for your privacy (privacy is priceless, like Master Card claims to be ) ... my keyboard has no pound sign, I had to web search it

Today, i had a hard time dealing with my external hard drive. First, i was trying to copy a file into the drive. Halfway transferring, the activity stopped. IDK why, so i cancelled it. Then it took so freaking long to cancel.. I ended the task through task manager. I thought my hard drive was failing so i ran a disk check. It turned out fine, no errors. So again, i tried to copy a file but the problem still persists. Quite frustrated at that moment. Then i decided to format it through wd smartware. During the formatting process, smartware reported that a hard disk error had occurred. But it was like a few moments ago, windows says that my drive has no errors. I got a bit fed up & decided to plug out the drive. Uninstalled smartware & cleaned up my system. I left it unplugged for awhile. After that, i plugged it back & amazingly i got it to format through windows. Was quite a relief & the best thing is smartware was no longer needed. I was not prompted to install it. Atm, i'm now transferring back all my files to my external drive.

    Phew!

Yes, you don't need additional software for a external hard drive, Windows will run it just fine. I have two USB external hard drives :) Formatted them to NTFS and didn't use the bundled software.

I didn't know that. I thought it was compulsory to install WD smartware.

I got a WD external last month from PCWorld and it works like a charm without the bundled software.

Those are not devastating like Cyclones .... but heavy rainfall and windblow accompanied by frequent thunderbolts . At least 10 storms will occur in the coming days .
