I didn't know that. I thought it was compulsory to install WD smartware.

My Samsung Story Station desktop external had bundled software too....I just deleted it and gave it a quick format. My new Toshiba portable didn't even come with any bundled software....it proudly says on the box "Easy to use with no software to install".
