    Dinner for two = $519.00?

I hope 'great time' with the GF included 'after dinner' time ...
    One main was $104.50!
This is a 5-Star Restaurant and all fancy stuff, not a chain, fast food restaurant (i.e: McDonalds)

That would mean you still have $480.50+ still left from your original $1000+ estimate towards your next build/upgrades, Anyway glad you had a good time DeanP.

    AUD520? That is expensive.

Where did you go? The Australian equivalent of The Ritz or The Savoy, perhaps?

I live in New Zealand, not Australia...

    Currencies if anyone is wondering...
    NZ $519.50
    US $406.71
    GBP £248.27
    AUD $384.93

Went to a 5-star restaurant (as pointed), everything was fancy. All of my food and beverages were $294.50 and my girlfriend was $225

Thank you, but I do know the difference. I have dined in a few 5 star restaurants before

The main thing is you enjoyed it. And hopefully she doesn't expect you to make a habit of it :)

i remember reading about some interesting study where they served people catfood, but in a fancy 5 star place, with all the top-dollar ambience, surroundings and service, string quartet playing in the corner, told them it was some high-class pâté dish.

the customers loved it, said it was the best thing they'd tasted.

conversely, other people were fed haute-cuisine type food, but in a greasy café sort of establishment, with dirty tablecloths, surly staff etc. they weren't impressed with the food at all.

conclusion: the surroundings where you eat often make more of a perceived impression than the actual food itself.

@Dean: You are still young, haven't learned all the tricks . Next time you take her out to a fancy restaurant, remember to ask her if she has gained some weight lately, when on the way to restaurant. She remembers these words when reading menu and orders a light salad and a glass of mineral water.

@Mickey: Brian Wansink, Ph. D., professor of marketing, consumer behavior and nutritional science at Cornell University has studied this. Test subjects who got KFC food knowing it came from KFC didn't like it, but when the meal was prepared from same ingredients brought from KFC, this time only put on a plate as in gourmet restaurant, the food got very positive marks. For instance when a KFC salad was "heavy, greasy, certainly closer to 1,000 calories", the same salad served on a plate with explanation it came from a gourmet restaurant was "light, refreshing, I guess 350 calories".

No way would I spend that much money on one meal I don't care how fancy, that's 2 weeks grocery shopping for me, or there abouts

Mind you if it made you and your girlfriend happy and you enjoyed yourselves who are we to complain

Today I went to spend time with the grandchildren and as it was a lovely sunny day it was spent in the garden, their dad was busy sorting out the garden getting it ready for planting, that was until his pager went off and he had to go on call-out

I added another three photo's in the grandchildren album taken today.
