    Today [7]

    Continued from - Today [6]

Today I got a great sense of satisfaction in being able to clean a friends PC of rogue-ware that almost fooled him into clicking the "Click here to register and clean infections" button. I'm not sure if its OK to name the rogue-ware here, so I'll just say that from my research, it seems to be quite common.

My friend is a professional photographer and had recently done some major work for a client of the large V8 SuperCar races here in Adelaide, a not insubstantial job for a pretty large fee. He hadn't yet managed to back his work up to his external storage when the problem arose. The software used a nasty little trick to make all the user files and folders, desktop icons, and some progam files and folders, hidden, thus giving him (an inexperienced PC user) the impression his work was forever lost.

With judcious use of bootable F-Secure ISO, Malwarebytes and MSE, I was able to clean his system and restore all his professional work. Naturally, he took my advice to install MBAM, WoT (we suspect his wife inadvertently followed a bad link), and keep his MSE up-to-date (he seemed to have forgotten to upgrade from MSE1 to MSE2).

I've never had a bigger rep in my life than too see his face when I told him everything was OK. Of course I couldn't refuse an offer of a free slab of my favorite beer as a sign of appreciation!

I don't think i would have been able to do it without all the collective knowledge I have gained here from all of you, so a big REP to all the regulars here at SF. I'll be sure to drink some of that beer on your behalf

A big thank you for sharing your knowledge with me,
    Golden

    Thanks Noob.

Went to hopital this morning. Only about 20 minutes from the house. Going back this evening.
She is responsive to stimulus now but not waking up.
Also has a little color back as she was white as a ghost last night.
    Breathing a little easier.
Her heart rate jumping up and down was from a heart attack that occured while all the rest was happening yesterday.

Talked to her doctor who said she is critical but stable at the moment.

At least she hasn't got worse so we wait and see.

Tip of the hat Golden. One of lifes little pleasures - helping someone out. As I have said before - Like a dog with a bone you never give up until the problem has been solved. Congratulations

Actually had a really good day at work. No one bothered me, and I got more done......go figure. Now, if they would just realize it...telling them does no good.
