    XP Pro x64 Download?

I started out to do a fresh install of XP to replace the installation that I lost with my last hard drive failure, but I can't seem to find the disc. I found it's case (empty), and I remember moving the backup image to some other location, to make more room for Windows 7 images, but I guess that I must have dumbly put it in some partition on the dead drive.

Since I do have a license key, I'm wondering if it is possible to download it somewhere, like is sometimes done with W7? I did find a couple of download sources, but they were for RC releases, rather than the RTM or I guess RTW might be more proper.

You can actually order one from Microsoft, if you can prove you have a licence key, they should send you out a disc, after all, the software is free, it's the licence key that you pay for ;-)

Yes, but that wouldn't be as fast as a download, and knowing MS, it wouldn't be free.

    Hi there
It's still available on Technet -- if you have a subscription -- no probs --and in fact considering all the other stuff you can get then IMO a subscription is well worth while.

Also the downloaded version will allow you 10 activations per key (thats 10 activations on DIFFERENT computers) and you can get up to 5 keys.

These days --although "horses and Stable doors" might be in order -- ALWAYS copy your CD/DVD's to ISO's and save then on HDD's somewhere and ALWAYS HAVE MORE THAN ONE BACKUP COPY

Using a Free product like Alcohol 52% or equivalent you can even mount these as "Virtual CD's / DVD's.

MS will charge you $14 or something like that for a new disc. Even if you do have the key!! Crap I know!! If you look hard enough you should be able to DL one. IMO I would not. Your OS is your backbone on your PC. I have tried doing the DL from a third part and have had bad luck. That to me is worth the $14 going to MS. Good Luck in your decision.

Thanks, but I don't need W7, I need XP Pro x64. I run multiboot, and I have had better luck with XP as an encoding platform, than I have with W7.

I still have my disc for XP MCE, but that is x32, and I don't know that it would perform as well as x64 for my purposes.

Technet would be a great idea, if I needed it enough to pay their price, but I don't.

Sorry, my bad. I misread your post, although I can clearly see now you said XP, not Seven.

That is the reason that I posted this in Chillout, rather than one of the other boards, because when I posted a Linux question elsewhere, I was sternly chided for doing so, and was moved here. Of course, XP is Windows, but considering the bias toward W7, I thought it might be considered taboo also.
