A new section for 'what should i buy?' ??
hey,
The website ROTORBURN Australian Mountain Biking has a very handy section called, *parts 'n stuff*
When buying things, sometimes im not sure what would be either better/ or better value. even a different place to purchase it.
so, i opt for a new section for this topic specifically.
What do the admins think of this??

Dell has this on their "community" web site. A vendor's web site would be good for this as prospective buyers can get info on that vendors equipment and what to buy from that vendor for a specific purpose.
I don't think it would be appropriate for a general site such as this.

What version of windows seven does this mountain bike run on??!!! ROFL.

I think a "What Should I Buy?" section would be FABULOUS and very appropriate! There are some excellent computer forums that have similar kinds of sections, and they are extremely helpful and informative. When I was first thinking about buying a laptop, I got so much good information from the What Notebook Should I Buy? forum on the Laptop Reviews - Notebook Reviews and Netbook Computer News & Reviews website. In our case, seeing as this is a Windows 7 Forum, we could certainly limit the "What Should I Buy" section to anything relevant to what is discussed here, but I think it's a great idea to have that kind of information and discussion available to our members.

The problem with such a section is, it becomes nothing more than a place where people post links to some hardware, asking if it would make a good computer or not....asking others to do their research for them. Other forums I participate in have such sections, and the end up being a deserted wasteland. People create a thread, and either don't get answers, or get several people arguing over which video card would be the best buy.
If you have a question about something to buy, research it, and then ask specific questions. I wouldn't ask someone else if I should get chocolate or vanilla ice cream, would I? I'd buy what I want or what I prefer. In many cases, that's the same answer. The person asking their question knows their needs and budget better than anyone else.

maybe open a subsection in chillout room, just somewhere people can discuss parts.
all very valid points here, but it came to thought when i was buying my screen.

It would become a magnet for spammers with affiliate links, we spend far too much time now policing these in the normal sections without attracting more.
