    Rep question

I've noticed that most members really don't give rep when you help them resolve a problem. Or am I mistaken?
    What's your take on this?

Well, you win a few and you loose a few. Many new people are not familiar with the system and others just do not bother. And sometimes you get reps for a very small contribution whilst an effort of several hours is not being recognized. That's life.

I would not pay too much attention to the rep matter. If you plow along helping others, reps will trickle in over time. With 108 posts, you are just at the beginning of your "carreer", so don't worry.

I think that its bad that people get satisfaction from rep, it should be the feeling of being able to have helped someone that satisfies you

Lots of people don't give rep. And frankly, I don't usually have any idea whatsoever what my rep level is. I simply don't pay attention to it.

I give rep here and there, but it seems like when I want to rep somebody, I usually get told that I too recently gave them rep points and I have to spread it around. I understand what that mechanism is trying to prevent, but if somebody posts very helpful stuff and they do it close together, it somewhat stinks that I cannot recognize them without finding random others to also spread around rep to first.

Like others said, I wouldn't worry about it. It will come over time. Or be like me, and don't pay it any attention...and you will never know.

You'll find that most of the rep comes from senior members, alot of newer members, especially the ones who only come in when they have a problem don't even know what the rep system is.

I find that you tend to start getting more rep as your profile on here grows, as more people get to know you you'll start to pick up more rep. For my part, I am quite reluctant to give rep, as my rep is capped at 45, and sometimes I just find myself thinking, "Well it was a good post... but was it really worth 45 rep points?"

I know it shouldn't work like that, but that's the way I see it.

Don't sweat it, it will come, in the mean time keep up the good work, you are being noticed

Looks like I was misunderstood. I don't try to help others for the rep, I help if I can, 'cause I know how it was when I was new to OS & computing in general; way before any great sites like SevenForums were around. But I think if you take the time to help someone out, is it so hard for them to click a little button & type a word or two?

as has been said most noobs are unfamiliar with the rep system ,i know i was ,what happens mostly is that other members will rep you if they think you gave good help.
what i dont like is when you provide a soloution and the op doesnt give feedback as to whether it worked or not

Rep is ok, but I really like to hear from the OP as well. That way I know if help I gave worked or crashed the system. We all learn more that way.
