    Question about forum registrations...in general.

Like many I have quite a few forums I'm subscribed to. Recently I've decided to make some changes to facilitate better tracking of these. Part of this would entail changing usernames and e-mail addresses. While addy changes are simple it's quite often difficult (or disallowed) to change user names. What I'd prefer to do is simply delete accounts and/or re-register instead of having to contact a mod or admin for each forum and pull teeth in an attempt to get this accomplished.

My question is -- How do forums determine multiple registrations? Is it by unique IP? If so, would DHCP allow a workaround by not logging in until the address is renewed automatically or manually (hopefully with a different IP)? If not, might there be some other trick to a new registration?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
If you want to change your user name post what you want to use,
I'm sure it will be painless
But usually only once is allowed
    Cheers.

I can't speak for all forums but we don't delete accounts, you can change your username once and it's a painless affair as ThrashZone mentioned.

Asking about how to go about creating multiple accounts will just get this thread binned, since multiple accounts are against the rules anyway.

    Thanks for the replies!

My query really stemmed from the frustration I've already experienced with the first set of attempts. I belong to a number of quite active armament forums -- With one, over the past two weeks, I have sent a PM to both a mod and admin but have received no reply. With another forum the third mod I contacted finally replied saying he would complete my request and just wanted to verify my choice in new U/N, I verified but after one week no change has been made. The third forum simply does not respond to mod PM's nor admin directed e-mails. This is why I was just saying it would be easier to re-register and simply forget about the original account.

Rest assured I have absolutely no malicious intent but I do understand why engaging in conversation about multiple registrations is prohibited and will not pursue it any further. Oddly enough this forum is one I have no need to make changes to.

I understand, like I said I can't speak for other forums and it sounds like they aren't willing to oblige your request for what ever reason.

Multiple accounts here will just end up in a banned account for the new account, both if continues.

That's what perplexes me. In those forums I have either low (2-5) to no post count. With each account I politely submitted requests for U/N change only.

I'll go ahead and mark this thread solved. Guess it's back to diplomacy-with-a-smile in requesting U/N changes from the plethora of registered forums.

    Thanks again. Enjoy your holiday!

So a banned account won't get deleted? Why not?

... because that would entail deleting all posts made - potentially destroying a lot of threads.
