Which laptop is better?

If you were to pick the best laptop out of the 4 compared here, what would it be and why...

Out of those four, I would choose the HP....it is the only one of the bunch that is a dual-core processor as opposed to a single-core. Also, I believe that it has the best graphics card.

"Which is better" is very subjective. For instance, I would stay away from the gateway like the plague because I haven't had much success with them however the next person may swear by them.

You would be best to actually go to a Best Buy and try it in person; this will give you a better oppurtunity to figure out which has a better look/feel to it.

Just to let you know, this laptop will be used primarily for surfing the internet, using microsoft office and watching videos online and playing DVDs and CDs. Do you think I need a dual core for this?

Also, I liked the specs on HP also but I have had bad luck with HPs in the past as the batteries have died fast, they get extermely hot and whenever watching a video whether online or DVD, the audio got messed up from the video and it was very distracting. I even updated all the drivers and this still occured. This is why I was leaning towards the other laptops, but HP might have gotten better and just wanted some other's opinions on the issue.

By all means, wait and see what others have to say. I haven't ever owned an HP laptop.....I prefer ASUS for laptops.

Nice laptops - if I were looking for one 10 years ago. But today I would not buy any of them. For $150 more you can get a nice e.g. Toshiba with an i3 processor and all the bells and whistles.

But if $350 is your maximun budget, the HP gets the closest to a modern laptop.

Here is a website with today's hot deals ( Laptop Deals - Deals2buy.com ). These are examples: (the second one has a nice processor - see comparison chart: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+N660+Dual-Core )

Thanks, this is for my girlfriend. She is currently on a budget and those laptops, although good deals, are too pricey for her. I like the comparative site that you added, though. I have been wanting to have a site like that for a resource.

Hmm, the Lenovo (second picture) is only $30 more and a world better than your choices. Maybe you want to consider that.

This is a noce system indeed. All you have to do now is swap the HDD for an SSD. That is what I have done with a similar system recently (used an OCZ Vertex2 of 90GB for $145) - it really made a difference.

But unfortunately those systems are not within the price bracket of the OP.
