There is a reason there are 10 million more cats here and thanks for the condolences but not necessary. Furballs have spirit unlike lap dogs.

Hmmmmm seems to be a common thread.

dog days of summer, dog tired, and many more. In the final analysis there are 10 million more in home where hopefully their owners have had them fixed. Dogs and cats have similar sized litters and given the change both will do what nature intended.

There are exceptions to every rule of course and exceptional owners. I myself prefer the spirit cats have that dogs do not. I have had both but just prefer cats.
