The journey of a UPS package

    Hi everyone.

Don't you guys think it's funny when you track a package that you're expecting from UPS or FedEx? Right now I'm waiting on some parts from Newegg, and these are all the places the packages have gone through:

05/23/2011 23:10:00 IN TRANSIT TO[I] MADISON HEIGHTS, MI, US
    05/23/2011 23:09:00 DEPARTURE SCAN[I] MAUMEE, OH, US
    05/23/2011 19:21:00 LOCATION SCAN[I] MAUMEE, OH, US
    05/23/2011 19:14:00 UNLOAD SCAN[I] MAUMEE, OH, US
    05/23/2011 17:31:00 ARRIVAL SCAN[I] MAUMEE, OH, US
    05/23/2011 14:21:00 DEPARTURE SCAN[I] CINCINNATI, OH, US
    05/23/2011 09:19:00 ARRIVAL SCAN[I] CINCINNATI, OH, US
    05/23/2011 03:41:00 DEPARTURE SCAN[I] NASHVILLE, TN, US
    05/21/2011 03:35:00 ARRIVAL SCAN[I] NASHVILLE, TN, US
    05/20/2011 23:34:00 DEPARTURE SCAN[I] MEMPHIS, TN, US
    05/20/2011 22:48:00 ARRIVAL SCAN[I] MEMPHIS, TN, US
    05/20/2011 22:39:00 DEPARTURE SCAN[I] MEMPHIS, TN, US

I live in the Metro Detroit area, so it's getting pretty close! This is so much fun.

I always track, even the stuff that is just sent in the regular US Mail. My father and I are playing the waiting game now....our cameras that we ordered last Wednesday are supposed to arrive tomorrow via UPS. I don't have access to his computer so i can't follow it closely like I would my own orders though.:)

    Funny? Not really.

    Amusing maybe.

I have been guilty of setting the tracking page as my home page before.

It's just that I sometimes wonder if all this instant or near-instant gratification is somewhat spoiling us. On the one hand, it's great that the technology lets us have this convenience and the ability to even monitor the different facilities that our packages go through as they make their way toward our homes, but speaking for myself personally, it kind of puts me in a mode of "I want it now, now, now!"

Of course, there's one thing I usually don't do, and that's spend extra for the fastest shipping possible. In most cases, I just go with UPS ground or USPS when I buy media from Amazon. I mean, had I opted for something like that in every instance over the years where I've ordered something online, I think all that extra fast shipping would have accumulated to quite a bit of money at this point.

What it amounts to is that I'd like to think that I'm exercising a certain degree of discipline by waiting for the right time to buy something (when funds are sufficient and the need is greater), and just choosing the least expensive shipping option. After all, it won't kill me to wait a few extra days for it to arrive.

I only spend extra for faster shipping once in a while.....like if someone's birthday is coming and I don't think the regular shipping will make it in time. Other than that, I think you're correct about it being a waste of money.

Agreed. I've done it before once or twice, but it's not the norm for me.

My item arrived yesterday after I'd left for work.
    COOLPIX S3000 from Nikon
Of course, the price listed there is the MSRP.....I paid less being a prior Nikon owner.

I hope you guys enjoy your new stuff. Me, I was up late putting everything together. So far so good, other than trying to sort out some audio conflicts, but I'm not too worried about not being able to rectify it. Still have to re-install a lot of programs and games, but it's up and running.

Man, that moment just before you power it up for the first time and wait for that POST beep is just pure torture...
