I was not even aware that I had the supporter badge. It just showed up a while ago but something tells me that it is for the kinds and quality of answers to new users questions that were helpful. And not just the number of messages that you write. I try real hard to make sure that mine are informative and helpful even though sometimes I have to bite my lip instead of answering with a wise assed answer.

I guess it comes from my days as a sysop of a bbs where I had to have a lot of patience and my getting older..
