Giving rep to "quasi-worthy posts" defeats the purpose of the rep system and will be dealt with here as it was dealt with at x64 when it was abused in the same way there.

For those that don't know, the rep system is closely monitored by the admins here, every rep given is logged.

I tend to watch people...and boost those who have been active and committed quality posts

I don't tend to give rep that much...

When I say I have to lower my criteria, I don't mean I want to rep somebody who post news about beating half of an enemy army in 5 minutes in some FPS, or has found a universal serial to all M$ software.

I just want to be able to show my respect when I so feel. I'm an idiot but not nearly so stupid I would give credit only for the joy of it. Of course there has to be a reasonable cause to do it.

I couldn't say it better, so I quote Antman here:
How do we, as a group, address the usage of the system while maintaining its integrity and functionality?

I am not attempting to abuse anything. I am attempting to work within the framework as designed and implemented.

I could write a database to track worthy submissions and apply rep points to deserving posts retroactively. Such peripheral processing should not be necessary. Rather than doing that, I prefer to engage in the open and continuing discussion contained within this thread. How do we, as a group, address the usage of the system while maintaining its integrity and functionality?

I would find it useful to be able to allocate points based on the relative worthiness of a post. Not all posts worthy of rep bumps are worthy of 60 points.

So, Barefoot, what constructive suggestions do you have that promote the fair and valid usage of the rep system?
Use the system as it's laid out and don't attempt to subvert the process to suit yourself, to me this doesn't sound un-fair and is not hard to comprehend.

It's simple, only rep the really worthy posts.

This will be my only reply so this doesn't get out of hand.

This thread has caused me to realize I really need some direction as to giving rep. What is worthy? Is it someone assisting a new member? How about someone who assists me in helping a new member with a problem. Others have posted behind mine, the sum of which is much more valuable than mine alone. How about someone who is supportive of me in a more personal way, encouraging me to keep trying as I learn the ropes or offering appreciation for my effort? Questions. Questions.

Look guys...it's alright to rep any person/post you feel is helpful to you, or if someone is just being helpful. Regardless if I may think the post/thread/person is unworthy of rep. If you feel it's worthy, then you can rep.

Repping just to rep everyone you see for just nothing, or continuously giving your friends rep for something stupid just because they're your friends, or friends repping each other to get higher rep, or going around giving neg rep all the time is abuse of the rep system.

It's not very hard to understand.

Whats the deal with neg rep'ing? How bad should it be before you slap someone?

Tottaly agreed... and if someone is a good member with posts and useful comments he will be rewarded... is a natural thing...

Looking back in this thread I see almost everyone has some hue of color in thier name. I think all are being themselves and the true colors are coming to them.
