has unveiled a new experimental computer chip that it says mimics the human brain in that it perceives, acts and even thinks.

It terms the machines built with these chips "cognitive computers", claiming that they are able to learn through experience, find patterns, generate ideas and understand the outcomes.

Oh wow, I read a while back that some research team in England is going to use a junkload of ARM processors that the theory is that the ARM processors can use less amount of "synapses" than the human brain to process the same amount of information.

Damn, all this time, I've been underusing my brain. I could had ruled the world...or I could just use a junkload of ARM processors to do that.

I wouldn't dismiss any IBM research. It may die like the other US National treasure - Bell Labs (sorry it's now Lucent ).

For them to compare this chip to the brain because of simple changes in pathway patterns is pretty weak.

R&D people need to keep the visionary challenged marketers happy.
Imagine the hoops John Bardeen and Walter Brattain and William Shockley would have needed to jump through today. The marketers may have said...."You bunch of boffins what do we need that rubbish for? The vacuum tube works very well thankyou."
