Documents, Downloads, etc....
I manually move them to my second hard drive after every install of Vista (and now W7) - so when I need to do a new install, all my docs are on a physically separate HD and away I go - no complicated backup scheme.
My goal was to also figure out a way to have the Users tree there also - then all my *settings* and such would also get preserved - making life that much easier.

Then you can look at MSFN Forums -> Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI) or MSFN Forums -> Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
No - MSUs are spcailly built MSIs...
not all EXEs are MSI based....but those that are you can use unpacker to extract the MSI from....
With W7 it ain't gonna be possible yet until the SDK is played with and folks figure out how to do it.
For Vista, it's there, just convoluted - and 5 minutes of scanning ain't gonna get you the answer. It is there, but you have to spend a lot of time reading.
each app is gonna be different hence the time spent reading part....
