Sun Danyong commits suicide after losing iPhone prototy

Apple's a company well known for secrecy; you'll know so after having read the article we posted about it not too long ago. Though, can this obsession with secrecy actually be harmful to a human being? Into Mobile has evidence that proves that it can.

Sun Danyong, a 25-year-old worker in technology giant Foxconn's product communications department, recently got into a bit of trouble after one of the iPhone prototypes he was meant to take care of went missing. Once news of the disappearance got out, Danyong's apartment was illegally searched by employees of the company, and according to "unsubstantiated allegations" he was detained and even physically abused. Then, shortly after 3:30 in the morning on July 16, he jumped from his apartment window.

I thought that rather then using 'Foxconn Worker' (as neowin did) it deserved to has his name in the title. Sad day it is when you are forced to end your own life for losing something. Rest in peace Sun Danyong.

EDIT: Title was too long I see.

Ok, maybe I am being a little mean, but this is ridiculous. For many reasons.

I don't know if it is true or not, nor can I guess. If it is, we will certainly be seeing a criminal case. Where was this guy living?

Steve, Nice tribute on your part. It is a shame when someone young or old ends life in that way. For the rest of us that continue to "Rage against the Night" compassion for our fellow man and women is our best path. Live long and prosper my friend. lm

Unfortunately it IS a sad reflection on our times. Frankly, our current set of values as a species, placing WAY too much emphasis on image rather than substance, is truly heartbreaking. It's all about marketing, either products or yourself, regardless of truth or consequences. Sigh.

Big companies seems to think that they can do what they like... I hope there will be a full investigation and the culprits, if any, brought to justice. Nobody should have that sort of power over an employee.

It would suck if they now just found the phone after the guy died.

As i was reading the various posts i was disheartened by some that were uncaring and callous. And as i came to the end i formulated what i was going to say and it started out as "it is a sad reflection on our times when"..... then i saw DJG's post and it was exactly what i was thinking of saying. Good job DJG i agree wholeheartly.....I can't imagin taking my life for any reason. Nothing can be that bad. Maybe we worry too much about being politically correct and have lost our sense of humor.
    RIP Sun
