I see what Anak has posted. Could be a fly (or some other insect) that has landed on the camera lens briefly just as the image was taken, and at such a point that gives the illusion of these sky-bound entities.

At least you've been given the luxury of a mode of transport, albeit a simple kayak. I've seen directions where you haven't got that luxury, and instead it is suggested that you swim across. I think I've seen this for both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
