This awesome I have never got such a response. : ):) Sanitykills your dog may have a skin problem you should take him to vet and have his skin checked because if your not allergic to the other one then it's more likely he or she has a skin problem. he also could be getting something from his fecal. you can PM me if you want.

Since we're all dog owners here, perhaps someone else has run into one or two of these issues.

    1. I seem to be allergic to my black & white sheltie. I've always had long haired dogs, specifically shelties, and have never had a problem. I know that allergies are supposed to be caused by the dog's skin. I have no issues when I'm around the sable & white sheltie but as soon as I get around the B&W one I'm sneezing constantly, eyes start itching, and my nose starts running. Is it possible that, despite the 3 baths I've given him in the past few weeks since I bought him, that he is just carrying something from the pet store where there were lots and lots of dogs and that some sort of shampoo could eliminate this problem? I know people can take medication for allergies, but I'm hoping this is a much simpler issue since it's just specifically this dog and not the other sheltie.

    2. The B&W sheltie has not a clue about potty training. While the sable & white sheltie never goes in her crate of the same size--which is actually pretty amzing, this one hasn't gone one night without messing up. It's as if he doesn't even care either. He'll just lay in it. Any ideas?
    How old is the B&W?

What shampoo are you using? The over-the-counter stuff is next to worthless though Furminator does make good products. Ask you vet for a medicated shampoo. Considering his poor house training it is also possible that you are not allergic to his dander but to his urine. Their hair will absurb any urine and will be harder to notice than sh!t.

For crate training, is this a pet store purchase? If so, many pet store\puppy mill puppies will lose their natural instinct to not defecate where they sleep since they have no choice. One my dogs, the Catahoula, was severely abused and abandoned as a puppy, it took her almost 2 months to learn how to walk again. Before she was rescued she had no choice but to pee\poo where she was since she couldn't walk. This lead to a similar problem that you are having. Crate training was very difficult but with patience and a lots of bath she overcame her problems. You may have a similar situation. My recommendations would be to:

1- First get him\her checked by a vet if you haven't already. You'll want to rule out any medical problem firt (urinary infection, parasite, ...)

2- Make sure to follow a food\water schedule that involves no water after 8pm.

3- Make sure you have the appropiate sized crate for crate training. They should have enough room to turn around but not much more.

4- It may be a leadership issue. Sounds like you have a pack environment which is good but the B&W is a new addition they may be a social adjustment period needed.

If you provide more info either via the forum or PM I'd be happy to suggest more.

Is the B/W pure bred same goes for the other one if one of them is a mix then that could lead to allergy's.

as mentioned on another thread, i've got 35 cats!

it will take too long to take photos of them all.

also the results of the poll won't be exactly fair , given the title of the thread - i've stayed away from it until now!

I was going to suggest the poll had another choice, Both.

I have cats but we've had dogs as well and like both but at the moment just have cats and guinea pigs.
