    Please critique my resignation letter!

I have decided to concentrate on my school lately, and my job hinders my ability to do just that! So I've decided to resign from work but I've never really written a resignation letter before.

Can you guys help me out and tell me what you think? Thanks a bunch!

    Dear Sir/Ma’am,
Please accept this note as an advance notice of my resignation. Being my first job, I have earned a lot of experiences and have enjoyed a great employment opportunity with Dillard's.

While I have been very satisfied with Dillard's, I have decided to prioritize my goals in my education and career as a defender of the state. This was not an easy decision and it took a lot of consideration, but I believe this is necessary for my advancement in life.

I will gladly finish the remaining shifts that were assigned to me should I be able to.

Thank you very much for having me as part of your team.

    Sincerely,

I think it looks great and is a very professional notice. I also wish you luck in your endeavors. A big decision with, I am sure, bigger opportunities...

Thank you for the input Thorsen! I am hoping for the bigger opportunities too. With this economy, that was a hard but necessary decision >_<

    Dear Sir/Ma’am,
Please accept this note as an advance notice of my resignation. Firstly,
please allow me to thank you immensely for having me as part of your team. Being my first job, I have earned a lot of valuable experience and have very much enjoyed my employment with Dillard's.

However, after much careful consideration, it is with deep regret I must tender my resignation. I have prioritized my goals in order to focus my full attention on my education.

I will gladly finish the remaining shifts that were assigned to me as to avoid any unnecessary complications stemming from my impending absence.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Sincerely,

If you're open to changes, I've taken the liberty.

    Oh of course I'm open!

I was trying my best to put only facts but at the same time, show that I'm trying to be responsible on the decision of me leaving.

Thank you very much for that input smarteyeball! You deserve my rep, and it's justly given

    Dear Sir/Madam,

It is with great regret that I wish to resign my position with Dillard's at a time that is suitable for both of us.

Whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company and learned an awful lot I have decided the time is right to continue my further education.

I have given of my best during my time here and I would sincerely hope that I would be able to return should a suitable vacancy arise after I have finished my studies.

May I take this opportunity to wish you and Dillards all the best for the future.

    Yours sincerely, etc. etc.

This tells the company why you're leaving, doesn't badmouth them and leaves the way open for future employment with them.

Good luck in your studies, I feel you've made the right decision. As the economy shrinks, qualifications will be all important when job-hunting.

I would put something in that explains why you can't work and do you studies at the same time.
