This morning I had to have my oldest cat put down. 16.5 human years, and 4 different countries. he was a good companion. My kids have taken it really hard as its their first time having to deal with loss in the family

you have my sympathies - i know what's it's like.

looking after numerous old cats for ten years, i've had to make that decision many times over, and with two of my own personal pussers too.

    it was for the best.

it's a pity the kids can't really understand that yet.

After a certain period of time you should take another one. I experienced the same with a dog. People who never had (companion) pets will never understand what it means when you lose one. Take one from a shelter, young or older.

I'm so sorry to hear that Golden, but remember that he had a good life, and by the sound of things was a seasoned traveller.:)

Perhaps after the initial grief has lessoned you will get another, after I lost one of mine to a car hubby went to a shelter and got me 2 more. After about 6 years of them being around one went missing, which left room for the latest one that just turned up and adopted us.
