Email Stomping Out Snail Mail as U.S. Postal Service Teeters on Bankru

Think about the last time you mailed a physical letter. It's probably been awhile, unless you occasionally drop a line to your grandmother who refuses to purchase a PC. Now think back to the last time you fired off an email. Compare the frequency of the two and, in most cases, you'll find an enormous discrepancy. Turns out the shift towards digital communication is finally taking a toll on the United States Postal Service.

Britain's Royal Mail is struggling too so I think it's a worldwide phenomenon.

It never seems to stop the flood of junk mail though.

It looks like regular mail will eventually go the way of the dodo. It'll just be UPS & Fedex type services and 1 day business mail. I actually don't even remember sending a physical letter out via USPS. Most of my communications have been electronic in some form either through email, text, or phone. I only use the USPS for mailing bills as I've never been that comfortable paying my bills online. It just feels unsafe even though it's relatively safe for the most part.

I heard last year they were considering cutting Saturday deliver, now one of the things they're considering is a 3 day delivery week.

How the times change....if 20 years ago you would have suggested that the postal service would go bankrupt one day, you would have been laughed at....

Sad but true. In fact, nowadays, I don't even bother checking my mail every day --- usually only 2 - 3 times a week.

Sad, but at the same time, we don't want that. E-mail can't deliver the graphic card you ordered online. If done correctly, a 3-day delivery to home would work. Government mail should be delivered every day, if there is. Remove the postman and put boxes. E-mail and real-world delivery should be working along side of each other. They do not need to destroy each other.
