GFX Team Showcase... beyond the sigs

You need not be on the GFX Team to post yout picture magic here. Let's see what you have done!

I'm sure we all do work other than sigs and wallpaper, right? Lets show off our work here with a short description.

I got interested in photography in the old days with 35MM film and cams with no batteries. I had to crank to advance the film. I developed and printed my own pictures in B&W, color was too expensive. Not now though, one only needs a PC and a free graphics editor.

Anyone on the GFX Team and all who manipulate images please post them here as attachments. No links to "yourpicsite.com" etc.

    Lets see your works.

Here is some work I did with Calvin and used as an avatar once.

Used as my sytem properties logo sometimes.
Scanned my hammer, no camera involved.

Some site design I did on a now defunct NASCAR site. (And a new monitor at the time.)

Had a really bad t-storm in Aug '11 and the sun broke out briefly for some almost dramatic shots. I changed them and cleaned them up. The sky looked really dark in contrast to the sun.

    Very nice images, Gary!

Well, I must admit that I only use my image editing software to produce sigs and avatars for this forum ;-) And otherwise I just resize and touch up photographs.
There was a time when I used to have a Bamboo Wacom tablet to try out freehand painting, but I'm no good at freehand stuff; and after the tip of the tablet pen wore down to the extent that it was unusable, I disposed of the tablet. I think I drew an elf some years back with the Wacom and saved the image, though...Will search around when I get home

Here's the elf in two variations - the second image is supposed to be androgynous These pictures are much older than I thought they were - about 10 years old. They were not drawn in PSE with the Wacom as I had thought, but in Ulead on my Windows XP computer - with the mouse

Why is the elf dressed up like an Indian?

Well spotted Those "robes" and the head jewelry were indeed inspired by India - the dress has a bit of a sari touch about it, and in the first image, the "necklace" could pass for a (rather thin) dupatta* ;-)

*For those who are not familiar with some of the traditional Indian costumes: the dupatta is worn with a salwar kameez. The over-the-shoulder wrap of the sari is called a pallu.

Good drawing Athene, did you digitally draw it all?
I have never learned so many new words at once before.

    Thanks, Gary :-D
I first drew a pencil outline of the elf on paper, including a rough layout of the dress/robe. I scanned it in, opened it up in Ulead and then proceeded to add all the colours and details - the make-up, the sparkles on the dress etc. were all done with the mouse and lots of experimentation. I've forgotten how I did half the stuff :-D
