Help a fellow Technician figure out what to do with his life (V2)

Help a fellow technician figure out what to do with his life ;)

first of all, I want to thank everyone that responded to my previous thread with the many helpful replies. Your time taken to read and respond was greatly appreciated!

    where to begin ...

I have recently been contacted by a small Managed networking servicing company whom which i had applied for over the summer. they are basically a small Chicago based company that manages networking/set up and implementation of various tech related issues for small to medium size businesses. Most likely the position they would be offering would be a Helpdesk Technician. This is great news for i am planning on CCNA certification. I feel that opportunity and growth is almost certainly promised.

    However...

Working as a shift supervisor position at a busy Chicago Starbucks in downtown has quite good perks. I recently found out that next door there is a small cellphone business going on. They do phone activations, sell cell phone cases and screen protectors and even sell some sort of broadband internet. They also do cell phone unlocking.

Recently, i was introduced to the owner of the spot. I took that as an opportunity and introduced myself as a technician. We talked for a bit and he invited me over after work to talk business.

Basically, the owner is a retired veteran who had the money to open this business. Its sort of his hobby. He has a person who is in there full time running things for him while he sits back and makes money. He informed me that he wanted to give someone an opportunity to add computer repair services to the location.

This works perfectly for me! Not only is this next door to my work location but it's also a good exposure opportunity. I would work from 4AM till 12:30 in the afternoon, then go next door for my computer business.

By the sound of it, things are falling into place quite nicely for you.

To help get your computer business up and running you could offer prospective customers free coffee at Starbucks once they have spent something like upwards of $100 on computer repairs!

Hey, why don't you repair photocopiers like me! The daily abuse is fantastic, and..... now that most machines are connected to their network..... all their computer problems become my problem also!!! I'm like the free IT guy, it's great.

Seriously though, I would say if you do plan to work for someone else at all.... get the official papers. It may seem like a waste of time if you know what your doing, but it's part of the "weeding out" for many human resources people. I regret not getting a degree very much. Now I can't spare the time to do it.
