Interesting. I never knew that. And I thought that it was only The Queen who was allowed to travel in a car with no number plates. Sounds like the State of California should be looking at closing this loophole.

Fascinating. I never knew that either, and I wonder why it was so important to Mr. Jobs to not have a license plate. It could've been because he was a frequent parking spot violator, (in which case the cops would need his license plate number), because for just about everything else, he could certainly be 'tracked' through his drivers license number and social security number, not to mention his passport --- But for someone so wealthy to not have an auto license for such a puny reason --- there must've been another reason. Anyone know?

PS I don't think it would be possible to close that California 'loophole' because people with new cars do need to have a certain period of time to get their license plates. And regarding Steve Jobs, it wouldn't have mattered whether it was 6 months or 3 months or even 1 month --- he was wealthy enough to change car leases every week if he had wanted to. . .

I'm unsure why I am even compelled to lend some information, but here goes.

In California, when you get a new car you get a temporary plate sticker that has to be affixed to your front windshield. The physical plate is sent to the owner within 30 days and they are instructed that they have to put the new plate onto the vehicle immediately.

I was just about to ask about that. In Texas you must also have a Temporary Paper Plate for the back. I would think all states would be that way. They are not going to let you just drive around with no plates.

Well I'm glad to hear that the "loophole" doesn't exist. Thanks for keeping us on the straight on narrow. So, assuming that the pic WAS Steve Job's car --- why didn't he have a plate?

^ If it's a new car in California, it could have the sticker on the front windshield.
