    As you get older you tend to look at the past with rose-tinted spectacles, but my teenage years in the late 1950s and early 1960s are full of happy memories.

    The end of wartime rationing, rock-and-roll music, young girls in short skirts, plenty of jobs and no worries about the future.

    To all our younger generation I would just say, seize the day and enjoy your time because it'll be gone all too soon.

    One thing that I had as a 10-14 year old that I don't see now are kids out in a vacant lot playing baseball. Those are some of my fondest memories. I do see a lot of organized soccer leagues these days but I don't really see kids out just making up their own rules for games and playing.

    When did customer service die? I think I can remember it.

    They still have customer service.

    I'm guessing you mean GOOD cutomer service.

    I think it died back in the 1980's.

    I've heard rumors of it surviving in some corporate jungles even today.....but alas only rumors.

    Your more likely to find Bigfoot or the Lochness monster.

    Oh Yeah

    Sea Vix and Hoppy

    Starter on the floor, dimmer switch on the floor and the "starter handle" was called a crank and could kick the living dog---- out of you.

    How about the throttle knob on the dash. Which brought about the old saying (probably never heard it) "pull 'er out and bend 'er over"

    That reminds me of the old fart that drove on high beams all the time because he couldn't get his foot up to the steering wheel.

    Don't forget to turn on the ignition/magneto switch before you tug on that hand crank.

    You hear a knockin'?
    How about "pouring" new bearings?

    Have you ever done or seen any of these, not a picture, an actual one. ==

    1 = A phone with a dial, not buttons.
    We had a Black one
    2 = A black and white TV.
    Yes
    3 = A car without power steering.
    Yes, a lot of my friends have classic cars, and my power steering belt has broken before.
    4 = A 45 rpm record.
    yes
    5 = A needle for a turntable.
    yes
    6 = Ever been to a double feature movie. (that's two movies for the price of one)
    Yes, saw Clash of the Titans and Airplane
    7 = Ever been to a record store where you can play the record before you buy it.
    Not for Records, just places where you can demo CD's before purchase.

    I thought I had more of these, but I can't think right now. Do any of you other "Mature Adults" know of any thing that they had 40 years ago that is gone now?
    It was nearly 1980 by the time I was old enough to actually remember stuff properly.

    >> 1 = A phone with a dial, not buttons.
    Most phones were already touch button ones, but there was a broken rotary phone in gramp's attic.

    >> 2 = A black and white TV.
    A (distant) relative had one. And on New Years' the old folks would keep talking about these morally-corrupting new-fangled colour tee vees >__>

    >> 3 = A car without power steering.
    Dad's first two cars.

    >> 4 = A 45 rpm record.
    Not sure. Dad had a bunch of LPs beside the hifi but I don't know whether those were 45 rpm ones or not.

    >> 5 = A needle for a turntable.
    One of my chores was to (carefully) wipe the furniture, and I remember handling those.

    >> 6 = Ever been to a double feature movie. (that's two movies for the price of one)
    Nope.

    >> 7 = Ever been to a record store where you can play the record before you buy it.
    Nope.

    The LP's have a small hole about as big as your little finger. The 45's have a hole about an inch and a half across. Not sure how many CM that is, I am metrically challenged.
