As a total car nut (still have and drive the first car I bought) I can only imagine how great it would be to be involved with real drivers cars ! He will learn a ton and with luck his skills will grow to other exciting areas within the group.

His first week was spent in the F1 workshop as part of his induction and trial period and he was involved in rebuilding Reubens Barrichello's F1 car from the chassis upwards.

He said it was just great to work with skilled technicians who knew their job and were happy to help someone just starting out in a new career.

What was your first car and why have you kept it? :)

It is a 1972 Datsun 240 Zed as you would say. It's such a great car and without a doubt the most reliable car I've owned and I'm on my 14th automobile. It's old school but just replaced all it's fuel lines and took it for it's first long drive in maybe 8 months through a remote canyon. Went 80+ miles and if I braked 6 times I would be surprised. It is highly modified and handles extremely flat through corners.

I realise that I really shouldn't brag, but I just wanted to say how proud I am of my eldest grandson who has just started a new job at the Williams F1 company near Wantage in Oxfordshire.

From the age of 11, the lad has wanted to work in motor racing and after completing a three-year apprenticeship has just been taken on as the first technician in the team that will be developing and building the new Jaguar C-X75 sports car.

    Jaguar International - PROJECT C-X75

It really is a dream job for him and he tells me his first week went really well. As a grizzled old grandfather it just pleases me to see a youngster get on by using his wits and abilities to make something of himself - and with a British company.
You should be proud. Something else you grandson also did. Passing the security check that Jaguar surely did on a new person working with a new project car.

Layback Bear, I hadn't even given that a thought, but of course you must be right.

Linne, I remember the Datsun 240Z well, a friend of mine bought one new and said it was one of the best cars he's had. He didn't keep it, but as a classic car I would imagine they're worth a bit of money now. And yes, we do say Zed where you say Zee. :)
