Gasp! It took me three days, but I've installed the Windows 8 beta onto a virtual machine. The Metro interface looks sharp all right...for about three seconds. Then it's nothing but large icons. Yes, you can switch to a traditional desktop, but I can't figure out how to go back without shutting it down.

Internet Explorer 10 is impressive. And I realize that the beta is incomplete. But essentially, it looks like Windows 7 with a more complicated set-up.

hot corners. top left is previus app, bottom left is start menu, start at one of those corners and slide to middle left for last six applications..

oh, and to close an app, just grab the VERY top of the window and drag it all the way down. closing the desktop app doesn't seem to close desktop applications though.

I'm hating the day Win 8 hits all the pc's at my work and I have to do work on them. People are going to be like what the H*ll is this? How do I use this? ug.

It's not that bad. I'm using the 8 Preview version right now, and it is easy to switch to a classical desktop. Then it is similar to Windows 7.

I have to disagree. There are other threads just a pointless as this one. :)

I'm going to make a prediction: Windows 9 will have the Metro interface. After working with it for a couple of days, I'm getting used to it. MS might have realized that there would be an unpopular learning curve, so they released the pre-beta version of 8 so people could get over their hostility to the Metro desktop. But it's really not that bad.

I'm going to make another prediction.

I predict that Win 9 WILL have mouse capability, but it will be the last Windows OS to do so. Touchscreens are the wave of the future, and the mouse will be going the way of the floppy drive.

I will chime in and make another prediction.
" I won't upgrade from Windows 7 to this piece of garbage."

^ I agree. I'm telling people get a pc with 7 now or you will regret it when 8 is here.

I did just the reverse around 2000. I was computer hunting and the ones I saw all had Windows ME. I just held back long enough until XP was released then I bought.
