The very first application mentioned is law enforcement, which probably comes as no shock to us...

Hum scary stuff eh? I reckon just a high power gamma ~ burst would do it especially if it could be concentrated into a beam.

Every invention has some good applications possible, but I see far more bad ones for these type of weapons. As far as I'm concerned, I hope that they are never perfected.

Me too seekermeister it always amazes me how much time, expertise, and money we sink intio ways of killing each other.

I thought that when I first read about napalm in a mag once where the enemy (Joe) was putting it out by brushing it off - so they made it stickier, so Joe dives into water - hum just add a touch of phosphorus and hey it burns underwater - and I bet the fellow who though that little gem up went home to wife and kids and had some very nice weekends at the sea shore eh?

Having said that though I think smart bombs are an improvement in a bizarre way but mate the drones are definitely a worry.

Killing can sometimes be a necessity, but there are worse things than killing. Can you imagine thousands of walking dead, or brain damaged survivors of a war, or simply a protest that some government wanted to suppress, wandering around the country? Of course, if they went that far, I'm sure that they would have no problem having mass executions to eliminate the problem.

Absolutely seeker you are right on there one only has to think of the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and even the wounded we see coming back from places like Afghanistan plus not forgetting that euphemistic "collateral" damage.

But we could discuss this all day and it will to make one scrap of difference because you remove one problem only for it to be replaced with another - unfortunately.

But for a supposedly intelligent species we seem to be intent on killing other human beings for whatever and outrageous reasons and go to great pains in some scenarios to make this as efficient as possible. Pretty clever eh?

But intelligence is superior...right? Personally, I'll stick with my own form of ignorance. A lot of people believe that improving the intellect of the world's population is the solution to all of it's woes, but they can't see the forest for the trees.

Now you are so right there seeker like you I personally don't want to know everything after all I am out of my teens for one thing LOL!!

Thing is that we have used this supposed intelligence to do just what you have stated to a great many who do not want a life style as we know it. One only has to look at indigenous populations and I don't know and therefore cannot speak for the indigenous population of where you live but in Australia there are many that prefer to live and survive as they did for many years before the "system" was changed to one of compliance to what we feel is "civilised" and look where it has got us.

There are cultures that do not want or need the quest for knowledge other than what they require to survive.
