Dear fellow geeks who will be earning badges and medals in the future. I might not notice you earning a new medal, award or badge in the future, and because of that I might not congratulate you. But please rest assured I am happy for you and will congratulate you if I ever learn about your achievements.

I need to unsubscribe this thread, I am tired of clicking through page after page posts about a few more rep points, a new turd of this or that color. Especially when members post this him/herself like "Look guys, I got some rep and a new turd!".

In my opinion, the real achievements here are the badges, medals and awards. I find it not only useless but also quite comical when a member posts about his/her new turd, then next few pages are filled with "Congratulations, Member X" and "Thank you, Member Y". Of course I understand that postcount is postcount and every measure to increase postcount should be OK, but for me it's just stupid.

I have very limited time to use here on the SF, my online home, and I do not want to use it any longer for clicking through pointless and useless congratulations and thank yous every time someone has got a few rep points. On a forums closing 200K members that happens on an hourly basis, too often to keep track.

You future awardees and medalists, I congratulate you.

    Kari
maybe the thread should be changed to badges and medals.
i too have stopped reporting turds and sticking to congrats on badges and medals.
its not that aren't pleased for the turds but there is a golden buffalo thread that is specifically for that.

I'm with you Kari! I have stopped posting congrats for anything other than new badges. Not that I don't appreciate the efforts needed for a new pip, there are far too many. Also Gold Member needs no rep, just 2000 posts.

I'm happy to congratulate anyone on new achievements. And it isn't about running up post counts. But after the 1st medal, documenting every pip change does seem a bit much. But members reaching new milestones is worthy of congratulations if it comes to my notice. A Guy

For myself, I've unsubscribed from this thread a couple of times just due to the sheer volume of posts. It's not that I'm not happy to see all the new achievements, just that it's hard to keep up.

A trick I've been using is to not revisit the thread as soon as I get a notification. I'll leave the email notification in my inbox for a while, then catch up on the whole works in one shot. It's not reading the posts that gets to be troublesome time-wise, but the numerous revisits to the page. Before I did this it seemed like a constant cycle of email>>click>>read, new email>>click>>read, etc etc etc. :)
