    Guitar Strings

I finally bought a tuner hoping to get the guitar ready to play, and I broke a string, so I need a new set. The problem is that there are so many choices, and all that I know is that I want a steel set for a 6 string acoustic. Does it really make much difference which brand or version one uses?

An excellent guitarist will tell you that strings matter a great deal. They will also know what they like.

Being a guitar player myself, yes it does matter what type of strings you buy because some the cheaper branded ones are most likely to rip then the higher quality strings. Just go with a known brand of steel guitar strings.

I've been Googling articles about selecting strings, and while they seem to agree that it makes a difference which strings a person uses, their suggestions boil down to trying all of them and choosing what one likes. Obviously, that method would work, but I really don't want to buy all that many string sets, because it would cost more than the guitar did, and it wasn'y particularly cheap itself.

I'm looking for a way to narrow the field, not only to save money, but also time, because changing, stretching and tuning strings, then playing enough to get a feel involves more than just a few moments, and knowing myself, once I had a set installed, I would be reluctant to change them, unless they were particularly bad.

Reading about the basic types, one caught my eye...silver plated copper with steel cores, because they are supposed to be more mellow than steel, but I'm wondering what drawback(s) they may have?

i find these strings really nice and the beauty of them is that they can double up to make a nice garrot for folk that talk too much.

I nominate this as the most useless response on the forum.

That was hard to watch. I stopped watching it after a minute.

It's about a boy that was desperate for attention, regardless of what he had to do to get it.

I pity his poor teachers. Having him in class all day.
