Technology - intrusive or what?

I don't have anything other than a simple mobile since I really don't need anything else but what are your thoughts on this (probably not new to many) and the general trend towards less privacy -

I loathe it with a passion. Short of going off the grid, there's not really a lot that can be done because some people not only don't mind the lack of privacy - they embrace it.

These people believe the hype that personal tracking is a good thing. As such, they are the ever increasing majority which is the demographic that drives the markets we are either forced to adopt, or be left right out.

Bunch of cads in my view. I wipe all my cookies and don't log on to Google, only allowing Amazon to send me related stuff - I do tend to buy quite a bit from them. Since I'm on a dynamic ISP connection I don't seem to get much other stuff but the tracking is one reason why I do most of my forum usage as anonymous. Haven't bothered with Facebook yet or perhaps ever will.

Browsers & Mail
Internet sites/services requiring intrusive information
I can't really find a more appropriate place to post this, but I have to get this off my chest. More and more, major sites like Google, Youtube, Yahoo!, Microsoft, and so on, want me to provide a ridiculous level of personal information to create a simple email or user account. They want a MOBILE...

Is there a non-intrusive free anti-virus?
This is going to sound silly, ridiculous and rather picky. It is what it is, if you think I'm being irrational (I am) no need to reply. I am looking for an anti-virus that has nothing coded into it to ever pop a misc. window up in front of your active, full-screen windows by default. Pop-ups...

Best non intrusive method to password protect a win7 folder?
From what I can gather there is no straightforward way to password protect a Win7 folder using the native capabilities of Win7. Ideally I'd like to password protect the Documents folder but I suspect that's gonna be impossible so I'll probably have to be content with protecting individual folders...
