Hum I never really thought about "garnering" my post count I just post cos I like to reply or say hello or just have a bit of fun.
It was about this time last year and I had just topped 1000 posts. I even made a post that if I made ten posts a day for about three months, I could get my gold badge. I decided to do that. Well that lasted about a week. That was too much work trying to make posts just to get ten a day. It is much better to try and help people and get your post. == BTW, I still don't have the gold badge

Post counts have always been meaningless, they certainly don't reflect the quality of input. You can still have a very high post count which is 99% drivel based

To a certain degree, the rep medals/pips are the same. Often they are given for quality input but just as common has been the culture here to simply rep those you like.

Those in the know, or have been here long enough know who deserve what they sport and those that don't. Unfortunately new members, or new to forums in general; mistake badges, high counts and medals as a sign of knowledge.

The downside is that these new members tend to eschew the correct input of 'less impressive looking members' in favour of the 'high count/repped members' who at times, have no idea what they are talking about.
Well that certainly puts us all in our place.
Hum yeah it certainly does Gary and I for one don't consider posts in here 99% drivel!!

Some people.....well, I can't say it here because it might offend said person here.....but some people need more important things to worry about than pointless little things that are not life or death. I'll trade these people my problems and take on their little issue and see how they like it.

I've read some dumb things, but this one is up there at the top for "does it really impact your life that much?"

Hum I'll trade my buggered shoulder, total deafness in one ear, and chronic chest infections from years of working in bug ridden environments.

Nothing like trying to hold the phone for too long not hearing what is being said while coughing your lungs up eh?

When you state something obvious and people get their noses out joint for no real reason.

Particularly when people misinterpret and jump to conclusions

Isn't that life though. The trick I think is to try to know when to pull back and accept you don't know what's eating that person. (a bit preachy I know).
PS: I often get the balance wrong...I think.

It annoys me to no end when I lose patience with someone who appears to be lazy, ignoring steps, or won't ask back questions in order to get things done. Then I find out later that it was my loss of patience that put them off further from getting it fixed.

I have no problem with people being as novice as can be, but I have to learn that some don't even know the questions to ask. Instead of losing patience I've gotta find out better what they need.

I will not lose patience. It annoys me worse than the OP.
