And when they use Xmas instead of Christmas. And then they say Happy Holidays. I always respond with Merry Christmas.

    Good point!!

Especially the Xmas. Xmas? What is Xmas???
Hopefully not considered religious. The early Christians were perscuted by Rome and Jews so when they met an "X" was drawn in the dirt to identify each other, if the other person responded with a like sign. "X" is the Greek chi, an abbreviated form of Christ.
    Nice epexegesis! :)

    Thanks Gary.

Modern day usage, the X is ostensibly an innocuous non-denominational way of not alienating consumers that aren't religious. The average consumer does not know, nor really care for origins.

Christ is bad for business in today's consumerist Christmas.

You sure your not just making that all up?!

Actually, very interesting - but I would guess it offends Christians becausee it basically looks like crossing out Christ with an X, while others would argue it looks like a cross being carried at that angle so they're offended. (but then again the average person hasn'tt read your post, Britton)

Thats what annoys me - everyone getting offended by anything they can see, but they don't like......my neck pivots! maybe they never got that feature installed.
