I just push the B&W button on my $50 HP/Walmart special.
Black cartridge is about $8 ???
Yeah Hoppy the cartridges are from a after market place that sells both and I think mine are about $12 a pop so 5 x $12 hum not funny eh and if they were genuine - double that and it costs almost as much as the printer did in the first place
I can hit black but it still goes through all that cleaning rot - colours nearly all empty now and I only ever print docs as a matter of course.
I couldn't resist.
I do mostly B&W.
It has just one color cartridge so pictures are not as good on 8x10in. size. They get fuzzy. The 5x7 do good.
Trade off of cheaper B&W docs but poorer quality color photos.
Personally, I find my local photo lab can print colour images far cheaper than I can and for that reason I'm seriously considering buying a mono (black and white) laser printer.

5 minutes is all I could take.
Adios my friends.
way off topic but who cares .... discussion above.
I have a low cost laser printer for B&W and use generic cartridges. I find it beats inkjet in terms of value hands down.
I have a cheap canon inkjet for color and the cartridges are very expensive. It's mainly used for my sons school work.
For photos I use the BIGW photo processing. They use Fuji machines and you can't get a calibrated photo print but I fudge it with smaller dirt cheap prints until I get my Photoshop settings right. Then do a big print.
