when trying to help others, would it not be a good idea to treat all users with respect and courtesy in case you are dealing with one such individual?
Surely, that must be only a rhetorical question?

I think it is important to be respectful to others at all times, whether it is in a face to face conversation or on an online forum.
It would be nice, preferable, and may even be important. But it isn't going to happen nearly as often as any of us might like---on this forum or out in the street. Civilization, if such a thing exists, is a thin veneer.

    But you knew that.

I understand you are just venting and I support the venting. But I would not expect it to do more than maybe relieve a little of your own frustration. Vent away as you see fit.

I can honestly say that I have never noticed any rudeness from anyone. I'm not saying that there never has been any, just that in any of the posts or answers I have seen, I haven't noticed it.

    Hello frank,:)

It's true, and everyone's generally extremely nice......then you pop your head in the wrong door one day. Contrast can be razor sharp.

I was once told that everyone has the capacity to please - some when they enter a room and others when they leave.

And one thing's certain, if you're with a group of four or five people and you leave first, you'll be the butt of the conversation the second you turn your back.

Human nature, there's no legislating for it, that's for sure.

In a heated discussion passions can run high resulting sometimes in a throwaway comment that can be interepreted as insulting or insensitive.

No one is immune from a hurtful comment or a home truth, but I think it's imperative to remember that generally speaking we are arguing about the subject matter and not with the individual.

I've had several instances whereby a comment of mine has been flagged as plain wrong. I don't take offence at the correction, but take time to remember it and thank the poster who corrected it.

In essence, I wasn't being corrected, but the information I posted was.
+1 many times I have posted the wrong information, never has any member belittled me ,just gently pointed me to the right information.this forum is the best on the Internet for information regarding all versions of Windows as such you can expect to come across rude posters but the members here will PM you ,ask if you are OK ,need help or whatever they really look after you , The Mods and Admins do an excellent job of weeding out the undesirable element that frequent other forums on the 'net I really love this community here
I am glad that generally, more experienced members point out when we are incorrect and then go on to explain why. What bothered me the other day with my bad experience was that I was told that I was wrong in a rather rude way, and then the member went on to tell me what I said didn't happen. An explanation was not given until I asked for one. I gave the user a rep boost for the explanation as it furthered my knowledge, but I was a bit thrown by the lack of manners in the original post. I also kinda felt like I was being treated like a child who didn't have the ability to comprehend why it was wrong but just needed to know it was wrong.

This seems to fall in the category mentioned in the post by westom:

    Hi,

If you cannot clear it with the person directly, I think the best advice was that given by Airbot - simply report an offending post to the admin/moderator staff. The first thing I learnt on this forum, is that there is no excuse for blatant rudeness to anyone, bling or no bling, and the admin staff here go out of their way to uphold that. There are many well-repped senior members who will be able testify to this.

    Regards,

When it comes to communication the fact remains: You can please some of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, But you can't please all the people all the time.

I personally think that this is one of the friendliest forums on the web. I have noticed very, very few postings which could be classified as questionable.

In previous years I have been on many other forums and let me tell you - some are really rough and nobody does anything about it. Compared to those, we live in a really happy environment.

But regarding your second question - if you feel that somehing should be mentioned to a poster, send him/her a PM and explain how you feel. And it has nothing to do with rep status - just as a human.

true, but when you can't "please" someone due to a complete lack of self restraint over your manner of speaking to someone that is pleasant to you. Then YOU are the problem

(not YOU as in you Frank!)

    WHS - tru dat

SP is far superior to any forum I have located, I've never had anyone get rude or whatnot with me personally, just witnessed it a few times.
