Weird iTunes email

This is kinda off topic, kinda not but still I want to know what you guys think.
I got this email on my AOL which is forwarded to Gmail. Gmail wont accept it because it says it a suspicious attachment so obviously it is fake. The "dear customer" looks like a spambot typed it. However it is sent from @itunes.apple.com - How can a fake email be sent from the apple domain?

It looks like someone gave you a gift card, and you have to redeem it. It looks suspicious as you pointed out because you are referred to a "dear customer". I would think that the message would refer to the person who bought it for you, and say it was from them so you would know from where it came from. I would file the message in my drafts folder of your e-mail, and check it out with your relatives, friends, and Apple. These gift cards don't expire so you can thoroughly investigate.

Well that explains a lot.
With MSE and Malwarebytes open I downloaded it just to see what was in the zip (I didn't extract or run anything). It was obviously a virus considering an .exe called "Claim your giftcard" was in the zip. Running that would be certain doom for your computer.
