@solarstarshines That does make sense. Maybe Norton 2012 will be better, but I still think $100 is overpriced, I mean, isn't it?

Depends on How many Pc's it will cover i think the maximum is 3 If it is corporate business might cover more

Full coverage for all system internet /antivirus/malware that sounds about right but still overpriced

Still to the Defense of any purchased anti virus will go alot further in protection then something free

    free always has limits

I look at things this way. If one of the things your worried about is your anti-virus program then this falls into the "good problems to have" For example if your diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, that falls into the "challenging problems to have" column. I tend to have a lot of the "good problems" and when I start to get over whelmed by them I stop and ponder about those among us facing truly life altering problems and my "good problems" take on there true meaning. One last comment is an AV contract is for 12 months, a computer stays viable for maybe 5-7 years at best, friends and family should be for a lifetime. Treat all lifetime relations with the care and respect they demand as it's easier to maintain them than to get them back once lost ! IMHO........

I use the free version of AVG and have no problem with it. I saw a man coming out of pc world the other day with Norton and I thought poor you. No offence to any member that uses it, but I'm wearing my I hate Norton t-shirt proudly.

    Hi there
probably a better answer --your parents might be of an age at the time PC's were just becoming mainstream. A well known guy Peter Norton published the legendary "Norton Utilities". Although the name is now history -- I believe symantec / other companies took over this stuff the Norton name just remained.

However today there are much better and cheaper alternatives -- MSE does a perfectly passable job.

Remember anyway that NO security package is ever 100% successful. Proper user surfing, not opening email attachments from unknown senders and avoiding giving out sensitive informations over the Internet is your best protection.

    Cheers

Symantec was hacked and lots of their source code has been stolen. So far Symantec has said that source code of Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, Norton Internet Security, Norton Utilities, Norton GoBack and pcAnywhere, had been stolen. In the coming weeks I anticipate news stories about Symantec/Norton protected systems being pwned after the hackers figure out how to exploit weaknesses in the design. I'm glad I use something else. Read about it at the link below.
