Amazon Kindle Fire - Rooted it.

Today I bought a 7-inch Android tablet (Amazon Kindle Fire, $199). I have an iPod Touch, and a Windows Phone 7.5 phone. So I have all 3 major mobile platforms now... lol . Anyone else have a Kindle Fire? Looked up its specs, and it has higher pixel density than the iPad 2, a 1 GHz dual core, and 512 MB of RAM. Absolutely insane for only $199.

GF got one few weeks back. It's alright. Wouldn't completely call it an Android tablet as-is, personally myself. A heavily locked down-Amazonified customed out Android tablet, maybe. Of course it is possible to root it and get a pretty close stock Android OS experience on it though if one desired. It's not too bad, although sans a physical volume button wasn't too bright IMO. They could have put that on the device.

I actually like the lack of buttons. As for rooting it, I've never had an Android device before, so I'm not sure exactly what that means. I have managed to download and install some apk files on it for various Google components.

I want a tablet that does video and mp3's very well, but I don't want to pay over $200.00.
    Any candidates?

Kindle Fire is $199, and it does video and MP3s well. Especially with Amazon's cloud service that it comes with. Since it is Android, it does Flash Player, too.

    My Wife

My Wife has one. She just don't know it yet. Its wrapped up in the living room waiting on the 25th. I hope I didn't waste the money she reads a lot.

A big chunk of the buyers don't like the lack of the volume button, among other things. For 200 bucks, it's pretty nice actually.

Not saying you are or will but,

I wouldn't grow and then base your opinion of the Android OS off of the stock locked down device, though. Being it's your first hands on of it. It is quite far from what stock Android OS can look like, and is capable of.

I already looked up a tutorial and got the stock Android GUI to work on it. Also got Minecraft: Pocket Edition running on it. This thing is a good mobile gaming device for only $200.

Now I rooted it (pain in the rear as it was it's worth it...), and have the Google Market on it. Now, anyone know some good Droid apps?
