semi high end laptop display model ???

My wife found a store walking distance from our home that carries computers that were on display in bestbuy.( I want to learn how he does that). Well Its a Dell XPS 15.4 laptop system, I just configured the same laptop on dell's website and the price comes out to 1,537 with no discount, the owner is holding it for me(giving me 2 weeks to get the 30% deposit) at the price of $700. Never bought a used laptop before but this use is as a display model so I wonder if it could have more problems because it was a floor model. Basically I wanted to know at this cut price would you snag it up?

what would you look for as in damage spots etc?

I have had many computers, about 6 laptops so I know what to look for in a new computer and this would be my first used laptop and not sure what or where to look at possible problems.
He has everything including the box and case that comes with it, thought someone might ask.

So if you found this deal and needed a good laptop would you buy it?

Now if I can find a way to come up with an extra 700 bucks and get enough response to make the best choice on to buy it or not, cause even if everyone says get it great deal I don't have the spare cash right now and at least for me this would be a really fun laptop and allow me to start getting back to work since for some reason the doctors want to get paid this year LOL

Do you know how configured his XPS is compared to the one you made online? First find out what is in his system...if it is the same as the one online than ask him if you can test it out for a few hours...or even overnite. In many ways computers are like cars and doing a "test drive" would be very logical to do so in this case. That way you can evaulate that all things work on it and also check its outward appearence...such as scratches and wear spots

what I did online is the same specs as in the store I put the model number etc in my phone so I could check things out online.

I saw one small area of plastic that looked like it could be an issue, as for just outward it looks brand new and I looked it over pretty good. I didn't turn it on as I need to leave (he was showing me a desktop first) I will be going back there real soon as I have some things on my netbook he wants. as for him letting me test it over night I don't think so, shoot he is holding it with no money down for 2 weeks only to get a 30% deposit until I can come up with the rest if I can. I will run it for a while when I am there transferring files to make sure the screen is OK etc.

Eventhough testing it overnite is a little outwards...just testing it a little will do...just don't but it without trying it out for just a little bit. Sounds like to me it is a solid investment...is he selling it "AS-IS" without a 30-day warranty? If so keep that in mind and make sure you get to test it as much as possible before you hand him the cash

he said it still had the warranty from Dell avail. almost forgot about that until you said something about it. Yeah it would be a very solid investment, I would be able to do my artwork again, and put it to work anyway I can find to pay off my surgery. Well all legit work anyway. Did some computer/network security work for a few years and did general tech support but now not sure what i want to do, thinking about wireless or creating a online flash game, I just know after a year not working I need to start doing something and I need more then this netbook to do it(besides it is my wifes hehe).

I'm assuming it is an XPS M1530, correct? Sounds like a good price for one of Dell's highly regarded, high-performance notebooks. The XPS M1330 and M1530 are being phased out but IMHO they are lighter and better built than the new Studio XPS line of laptops.

If you go for it and you find anything scratched or dinged, you can find most any part for it new on eBay and relatively cheap. I've built three M1330's one piece at a time just waiting for the right part to show up at the right price (and ultimately less than half of buying new).

I'd say to double check the specs. Most of the remaining M1530's are selling with LED backlit screens but earlier ones (like what might have been on display at Best Buy) could be either CCFL or LED. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Also check the CPU, of course. At least seven are available. Lastly, the graphics card.... it could be 128MB or 256MB. Blu-ray drive? Is the infrared remote still in the Express Card slot?

If it all checks out to be the higher end of these options, you'd have a pretty darn good deal. You can get the service tag number from the sticker on the bottom (if it's still there) or from the BIOS and check the warranty status online.
Good luck with the computer and best of luck in your recuperation.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6600 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
15.4 inch think I read the LED part on the box can't remember but will check when I go back to the store

4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
HARD DRIVE 320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot Load Blu -ray Disc (BD/DVD/CD read/write
    VIDEO CARD 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    WIRELESS CARDS Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card
BATTERY OPTIONS56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
SOUND OPTIONS High Definition Audio 2.0
FINGERPRINT SCANNER Finger Print Reader XPS M1530

granted I was on painkillers and muscle relaxers but I remembered a lot about it LOL and like I said it has everything, around here they display some laptops under hard plastic so they can't be touched and I think this could be one of those. I picked it up etc and looked it over real good just didn't get a chance to turn it on, he pulled out the box to show it had everything and between checking all parts and remote etc were there(remote was still seal in plastic) I had to leave but I have 2 times to test it out before I put a deposit down so wish me luck finding 500 bucks, my wife is giving me the 200 for the deposit next week.

Shoot this would be the most powerful laptop I have owned. I used a computer tower that was given to me for work related tasks only ( I miss it, had all my games on a USB HDD) but had to give that back 3 months ago. once I went mobile 2 years ago (nice acer laptop I had to sell) I don't want another non mobile computer.
