I don't get it. Why is that plate so special? Please excuse my ignorance...
In the UK, every new car or second-hand imported car has to be registered with the Driving Licence & Vehicle Agency (DVLA).
The car has to have the same registration number fitted to the front and rear of the car and an annual road tax has to be paid to the DVLA.
The amount of road tax is determined by the CO2 emissions from the car exhaust (muffler to you lot!).
DVLA will sell personalised number plates for some quite astronomical sums.

I live in Peterborough and the first car registered in my area many years ago was given the number plate EG 1. EG referred to the geographical area where the car was sold and 1 because it was the first car sold in the area.
EG 1 can now be seen on the Mayor's official limousine - a Bentley the last time I saw it.
hi
thanks for that, so it would seem a car custom car reg can be more than the car!
my research shows a number plate can be sold as high as the buyer is willing to pay.
so then the question is, whats the most popular, highest ever?
1TB looks like its more valueable than the car.....
maybe
A
is the highest
or
X
hi
thanks for that link which shows the following;
(so the question is answered and closed this thread )
1 Abu Dhabi, UAE AED 52.2m £7.25m Feb 2008
Certainly can and some people make a business out of it!I guess in other countries you can sell your personalized plates/registration to other parties.
I would hate to think what the price of let's say for example
an "ELVIS" number plate would be worth in Memphis.
(Motgage the house, sell the car, live on the streets- but nice number plates)
hi
its a good investment if you can marry the number thats personal and the one thats going up in value
