Famous then was the Kirk/Spock pairing stories which was abbreviated K/S and such fiction was then called "Slash" fiction because of the A<slash>B format of the naming convention. Nowdays I guess they just run the names together... :)
Some time ago I had a friend who looked like a whippet (dog), but acted like a muppet (Spitting Images on TV) so to ensure I got him both ways he was henceforth known as a whuppet - he hasn't forgiven me to this day.
