How true.Today I fully realised that a human can love a pet/companion to an extent that is not far below a fellow human family member or non-genetic loved one/s. One of those solidifying epiphanies that confirm what you always knew to be true.
You can accept that they will never be equal. You can acknowledge your superiority. Your human "Alphaness" You know you can feel it as firmly as you believe they can too, yet it's one of these things that is ultimately okay to be left unsaid. And due to the language barrier - never will either be fully understood and interspecies communication will forever leave understood words from both parties wanting. However, even without words you know you have made a profound connection with another living creature. That connection is indeed precious and when acknowledged - to be cherished.
In the end it separates what a true human vs an incomplete human is. The ability to unquestioningly accept another co-existing animal on our planet knowing that when it comes down to it, both have as much right as each other to exist in their own desired fashion on this planet as the other.
A human being is fundamentally just another animal on this planet. Disregarding the pecking order and the reasons why, we are still an animal. Granted, one of the best - but an animal nevertheless.
If one cannot feel that same connection, or even conceive of the notion... regardless of other traits - that is a flaw of outstanding proportions and without bothering to couch in any euphemisms - it is just one of many genetic demarcation points that separate a worthwhile candidate for continued genetic input to our species and one that is not.
If you've been offended, I implore you to think harder first. If you are still offended, for this was not meant as a directed personal attack. It simply an expression and a little food for thought.
*Nb - I am most certainly not a P.E.T.A styled activist, tree hugger, hippe, feral - just a human being.
Now I know where my dictionary went :)
