The rise of the $299 Wal-Mart laptop

    There's a new $299 laptop in vogue at stores--and it's not a Netbook.

These laptops sport big screens, optical drives, plenty of memory, and reasonable graphics horsepower. In other words, this is nothing like a $299 Netbook.

It goes to show that the netbook isn't all it is cracked up to be. Saw one of these at our local Wal-Mart, and their not bad looking laptops. Better value for the dollar than a netbook. :)

yep you are right. Why to pay the same amount for a netbook when you can get something bigger in the similar prize? If i'd have been in U.S., i'd have bought one.

If you're near 'the city', you could install your free copy of Win 7 Professional on it:

New York City, NY Launch Event | Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Exchange Server 2010

    If they're not filled up...

    See 'Harpua's post on SevenForums.
I caught one in Denver area... :)

sadly the closest thing to a "city" near me, are those giant d**do-looking things that farmers use to store weat and stuff.

i'll keep that in mind though, if i somehow escape "the void", and get back to civilization

Just visited my local WallyWorld to check this out...Toshiba L355
2.6G CPU 3G of RAM Vista Home built in wireless 15.4" screen...
    $319.00 U.S.

Out of stock so i ordered one...it will be in Tuesday.

Have to admit the netbooks were tempting because of their size but this'll work.

    Thanx !
